Benchmark Results – XP Tablet vs Vista on the OQO
The testing was done on a OQO version 02 1.5Ghz with 1GB RAM loaded with Tablet XP Service Pack 2 or Vista Business (fresh installs), or Vista after being tweaked with Vispa to enhance performance by eliminating unneeded services & features.
Each OS was run under the benchmark using one of three states:
- Nothing running … OS only (first 3 columns)
- Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 9 Medical Professional (running, but in mike OFF mode)
- Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 9 Medical Professional (running, in microphone ON mode, but without any transcription being done….just idling and listening for speech to happen)
Benchmarking was done using PassMark(TM) PerformanceTest 6.1 http://www.passmark.com

Vista is smoked by Tablet XP when stressed.
Under no-load conditions (see leftmost three columns), Vista Business is almost up to XP (5% slower). The Vispa ‘optimization’ software actually hurt Vista’s performance…..so out it goes!
XP Tablet SP2 ended up being 20% higher in the benchmark than Vista Business under both conditions (mike off or on) tested when Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 9 Professional Medical was running.
[…] In general, Windows XP or Windows XP tablet edition shows better benchmark performance than Vista. This advantage is maintained regardless of whether Dragon is running in a standby inactive state (not listening), or in an active state (listening). Optimizing Vista with the “Vispa” version 0.1.1 utility had little effect on results.
